Food for thought..

"I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are." By Milton Berle

I think its a brilliant quote, some people think otherwise... lemme know your view on it!!

Really nice to see you after a long time.
It means you are an 'are'.

Note, that in the first line, the author says, "I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are''. So instead of what he is, he is rather happy and content with the idea of what he can be. In the second line, "I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been," he contradicts the previous idea of just being content with what he might-have-been, and concentrates on what he was. The fallacy of the statement lies in the fact that, when the second statement (which obviously talks about a time in the past), is reflected in the light of the first one (talks about the future, while standing in the present), then the two statements stand bang opposite each other. A ‘could-be’ in the present, transcends to a ‘might-have-been’ of the past…..So, these two statements, are not just two separate statements…they are connected…deeply connected…and erroneously so……

@candid diary - thanks! its been a while..see, now u r a sensible person! We are all 'are' - thats the point! Its sooo brilliant!

@R - dude! u r confused..a very long statement with the purpose of confusing does not add any value or point! So, whats ur point? I am right, & this time arnd, u gotta agree!!

@vikas - soon, my dear man! soon..

@GS - dude! u r supposed to help make sense to this.. sanity is a matter of the mind, and it was my system that was zonked out! I is back GS..and in full form!

@ Aparna G.:Well, if you refuse to see the point, theres no point, trying to show u the point. But, if we all 'are' (At least I am R, definitely), then, we can just as well forget everything else..like the 'could be', 'would be' and 'was'. But the fact of the matter still remains, we are not simply 'are's...there are always 'could-be'-s n 'Would-be'-s associated with being an 'are'.

Oh, n yes. This paragraph, is simply for the sake of having a next paragraph....u know wat I mean..!!!
